- My Grandmother (Nani Mae) came right “off the boat” and married a nice, Italian man, Papi Iggy. To their chagrin, my mom (Nani Pat) married outside of the “family,” as did I. However, our cooking remains uniquely Italian-American. The fusion of old world spices and techniques with new world ingredients.
